The Equipment Vendor Environment
- Technology’s role is to create new services and/or enhance existing services in order to generate revenue for service providers and enterprise networks.
- Service providers and enterprise networks need “independent” proof that the technology can fulfill its claims with respect to feature viability, functionality, reliance, performance, and interoperability.
- Many equipment vendors and service providers lack the necessary performance and interoperability test equipment required for product and network testing.
- An independent Lab is a real asset for independent product development and verification. In addition, an independent Lab can facilitate customer presentations in an environment which simulates the customer’s network.
- Equipment Vendors can demo equipment in a Lab which is closer to the customer’s location.
The Service Provider Environment
- Unless a strategic network architecture plan exists, new networks over time become legacy networks incapable of providing the newer, advanced services.
- Creating services to meet customer needs and generate revenue requires service providers to make many technology choices between features, performance, cost and interoperability with existing network equipment.
- Many service providers can’t afford to invest in research and development including a Laboratory. An independent Lab acts as a virtual CTO.
- Service and network developments require complex equipment testing, and staging in the Lab prior to deployment to insure reliability and performance.
- New services and technologies require experienced personnel and training for existing personnel.
The Venture Capital Environment
- Venture Capital Groups invest in equipment vendors and are keen to see them become profitable. Having an independent Labs perform product testing and interoperability testing can significantly reduce the cost to each of the companies in the Venture Capital portfolio.
- There are a lot of technology companies in the same space competing for venture money. One way to reduce risk is to have an independent Lab do due diligence and product testing before investing in the company.
- An independent Lab can facilitate introductions between Venture Capital Groups and other technology companies in need of funding or between companies interested in buying technology from a Venture Capital’s portfolio.
